Class descriptions

CitySport offers three types of class: fitness, wellbeing and dance. A variety of external clubs also run classes at CitySport.

Fitness

This class focuses on balance and strength exercises performed on and around a Bosu. When attended on a regular basis, benefits can include stronger abdominal muscles. A Bosu is also referred to as the "blue half-ball", because it looks like a stability ball cut in half.

A fast paced, high-energy workout that fuses boxing technique, using pads and gloves with weight training, mat work and circuit style exercises.

From start to finish Cardio Combat is a comprehensive high energy workout that increases cardio fitness levels through an aerobic routine using martial arts techniques.

Are instructed around the X Cube equipment in the upper gym area. These circuit classes aim to prepare you for the movements you perform in everyday life and can be referred to as functional training. They are great classes to enhance your strength and cardio fitness levels along with increasing your knowledge of our gym equipment.

A workout centred around abdominal exercises. A great way to tone up and work on achieving abdominal muscles that will support the back and could help to prevent future back problem.

A fast paced class with different instructors taking you on a studio cycle journey uplifted by music.

These are normally 20 to 30-minute classes designed to provide extra training to add to your gym workout, or are quite simply for if you just don't have the time for a longer class. Fast classes include circuits, core work and Primal Movement.

This is a weight-based group-fitness program. The classes are performed to music using free weights-plates with barbells. Each music track focuses on main muscle groups and is a great way to strengthen.

A choreographed routine using the addition of a step. A great cardio workout.

All Gym floor classes are normally 20 to 30 minute Classes designed to provide extra training to add to your gym workout or quite simply if you just don’t have the time to do a 45min class.

This class stands for High Intensity Interval Training This interval-based class combines full-body strength training with high intensity cardio bursts designed to tone your body.

These instructor-led classes will guide you through a great cardio workout on an indoor bike.

A great high energy class that teaches traditional boxing techniques using pads and gloves.

Improves muscular endurance and body tone (without adding bulk). Firm, tighten and sculpt your whole body in this traditional body conditioning class.

This class approaches human movement aiming to relearn our basic, natural movement, through movements we learned as a baby. When done on a regular basis this class will help our bodies gain flexibility while building strength.

This is a choreographed routine using the addition of a step to increase the cardio workout.

This class can be taught in many ways using low impact exercises with the addition of weights or by simply using body weight. When attended regularly, benefits can include improved overall muscle tone with increased strength.

This is a great all-round workout that will encourage all levels to work to the max in the following areas within a circuit format: strength, cardio and flexibility.

Our cinema style cycle studio classes range from a beautifully designed video journey exclusively for indoor cycling to your own virtual studio coach. Find yourself out of the City, cycling across breath-taking landscapes. While the cycling offers a great cardio workout, the addition of the virtual technology provides pure stress relief via escapism.

Wellbeing

Budokon yoga is a style of vinyasa flow yoga influenced by martial arts and incorporating primal pattern animal movements. Very effective at increasing strength, balance and coordination. A strong class with fast results.

This is a fluid, lively form of movement that is much less static than traditional yoga styles. When attended on a regular basis, benefits can include: posture correction, improving breathing technique and can help to maintain healthy internal organs.

The main principles applied to a Mat work Pilates class are precision and focus of the core muscles. Using Free Style classes provides the instructor the freedom to create a class built around the needs of its member’s .A great class for strengthening the core muscles and body alignment.

A Hindu spiritual and ascetic discipline widely practised for health and relaxation, yoga includes breath control, simple meditation and the adoption of specific bodily postures. Other benefits can include improved posture and alignment, increased stamina and flexibility, improved coordination and balance and the relief of tension and stress. Using Free Style classes gives the instructor the freedom to create a class built around the needs of the members.

Rocket Yoga is a dynamic, fast-paced yoga – Ashtanga’s rebel younger sibling. It will get you breathing, moving, sweating and doing things you had no idea you could do. Named by Robert Weir of the Grateful Dead after quoting, “It gets you there faster”.

Vinyasa uses vigorous flows of postures to warm the body, focus the mind, increase flexibility and build strength and stamina. Students should expect to move continuously throughout the majority of the class.

Dance

CitySport will be providing one two-hour Dance Workshop per month. A different dance style will be taught each month by a top guest choreographer.

Jamaican Dance Hall is a mix of authentic Jamaican social dance moves with some Hip Hop influences. A great fun work out that will help to improve cardio fitness along with coordination skills when attended on a regular basis.

An up-lifting aerobic dance based classes. A great way to loosen up and lift spirits, while gaining a good cardio workout featuring movements inspired by various styles of Latin American dance.

Martial Arts, Dance and other clubs

Developed in Israel, Krav Maga is a unique and logical system that teaches you practical self defence skills whilst improving your fitness and increasing your self confidence through teaching you how to make accurate decisions in difficult circumstances.
