There are 17 Goals in total. The university naturally works towards some through the academic research and taught programmes – for example, 4. Quality Education and 8. Decent Work and Economic Growth – whereas others, like 1. No Poverty, 6. Clean Water and Sanitation, and 13. Climate Action, have teams delivering more targeted initiatives.
Here at CitySport, we focus on 3. Good Health and Wellbeing, 5. Gender Equality, and 17. Partnerships for the Goals.
Our Head of Sport and Leisure is currently one of 25 people globally on the International Olympic Committee’s Tech365 working group, working to better combine technological advances and sport delivery have positive impacts on the SDGs.
We are currently undergoing FISU – the international governing body for student sport and physical activity – accreditation for our Healthy Campus impact.
Active Travel
Walking and cycling can be cheap, efficient and environmentally friendly ways of getting around London, and between our campuses. It's also a good way to keep active during your commute.
City St George's provides some facilities to make your travel more convenient, including a bike shed, showers, and free drinking water, available for all students and staff.
Bike Storage
Clerkenwell Campus provides a Bike Bay for the use of students and staff.
The bike shed is located in the area between University Building and Drysdale Building. You access the shed from Northampton Square via the underpass adjacent to the Main Entrance. Once there you will need to swipe your City St George's ID to get through the black gate. Register your details to use our bike sheds.
Street bike parking racks are stationed near all university facilities, on all campuses, too, making it easy to move quickly between buildings and safely lock up your bike.
No Bike? No Problem!
Whether you're commuting or sightseeing, rental bikes are a great way to get around central London. There are three main operators to choose from:
- Santander Cycles offer over 12,000 e-bikes and pedal bikes, available at docking stations all over central London. Download the app or head to a docking station to rent a bike.
- Lime offer electric bike and scooter rental throughout London via the Lime app available on their website.
- Forest bikes offer 10 minutes for free, which can be used daily when renting their e-bikes via the HumanForest app available on their website or scan the QR code on the back of the e-bike.
Water Ways
Free chilled drinking water is provided for all staff and students on the Clerkenwell campus via over 30 water stations, and showers and changing facilities can be found at various locations around the campus.
