The supported individuals have already shared their praise for the programme. Callum noted,“I was incredibly honoured to be awarded a place in this year’s Student Athlete Programme, made even more special by being Tooting Campus’ very first Student Athlete! Since joining the programme, I’ve attended a very insightful workshop run by AddVictor and have explored Performance Lifestyle 1-to-1 with Tom Edwards, Head of Sport and Leisure. As well as private physiotherapy and a yearly membership to the Clerkenwell campus gym, I’ve also been granted access to extra support and personalised resources which will help me in the coming months as I prepare to smash my Medical Finals and achieve Team GB selection! A huge thanks to Natalie White and the entire Student Athlete Team!"

Differing levels of support exist, enabling students demonstrating potential by performing at national/BUCS level to those competing at an international level to be recognised and aided. The programme is also supported by a number of partners:

Natalie White, Operations Manager and programme lead, commented, “It’s great to see the programme grow from last year with returning student athletes and additional talented athletes joining the programme. There have been many students over the years who have attended the university and competed at high levels, but the support provided by the Student-Athlete Support Programme will hopefully help the current – and future – cohorts achieve more sporting success, balance their studies, and increase their profile.”

Tom Edwards, Head of Sport and Leisure, added, “after the success of the first year of the Programme, it’s great to see the increased provision and number of supported student-athletes this year. The university’s commitment to supporting students to balance their sporting and academic demands has never been higher. Alongside the SASP, City St George’s Senate has ratified the Student-Athlete Dual Career Guidance and the university has been recognised as a TASS Accredited Site by Sport England.”

Applications will re-open in January 2026 for a second intake, closing on 4th Feb. More information about the programme can be found here or by contacting Sport and Leisure.
